THE NEOLITHIC formed PUTANGIRUA PINNACLES & STEEP COASTAL HIGH COUNTRY WALKS: Mainly accessable from April – October. IMAGINE as YOUR stress melts away to SERENE FEELINGS then the ANTICIPATION & ACCOMPLISHMENT as you WALK along the RIVERBED up to the PUTANGIRUA PINNACLES (a VERY EASY WALK.) or for a more CHALLENGING WALK ,branch off to CLIMB up VERY steep STEPS through the EARTHY ANCIENT FOREST to the LOOKOUT looking accross to the PUTANGIRUA PINNACLES, walk further through scrub & bush where you will see an EPIC PANARAMA which will include the OCEAN, the COAST, MOUNTAINS, FOREST, LAKES, and also the South Island's Kaikoura Mountains in good visability conditions. Continue along the TRACKS then across a FARM, then descend down steeply to the COASTAL Cape Palliser Road where you will walk back to the Putangirua Pinnacles car park ,where you left your car.10 minutes from Palliser Bay B & B.
In SIR PETER JACKSON’S FILM ‘’LORD OF THE RINGS’ ’ the scene’’ Path of the dead’’ was filmed in these PREHISTORIC Putangirua Pinnacles.
Imagine the ACTORS in their FANTASTIC COSTUMES acting out that EERIE haunting scene, while you are walking where they walked.. Your photographs will reveal all sorts of imagined fanciful creatures !!.The PINNACLES themselves EVEN LOOK LIKE kings & queens from an Arthurian legend.
